About Us

Investment4Development Ltd operates from an African leadership ethos and works with clients to co-create, design and implement strategies that advance leadership, social justice, gender equality and sustainability.

Our Story

African organisations with transformational mandates consistently face the same structural barrier: they hold fundable propositions but lack the internal capacity to design investment-grade strategies, navigate institutional capital ecosystems, or translate their development impact into language that moves donors, DFIs, and private investors.

Investment4Development is where that journey begins.

Our Vision

Our vision is for an Africa where organisations with transformational mandates are adequately equipped with the governance, capacity, and capital to deliver to it without compromise, or delay.

We aspire for an Africa where leaders of development organisations, social enterprises, institutions and community movements are not held back by fragile governance structures or inaccessible capital markets. Where their compelling ideas carries the same institutional weight as those from the global north. Where the gap between a fundable proposition and a funded project is closed not by luck or proximity to wealth, but by deliberate, expert partnership.

Our Mission

Our mission is to partner with African organisations, and institutions to close the gap between transformational ideas and funded, well-governed, impactful initiatives. Through the provision of infrastructure support, we equip leaders across Africa with the governance, capacity, and capital their mandates demand.

Our Values

Every engagement is measured against outcomes, not outputs. We set quantifiable KPIs, track delivery milestones, and hold ourselves accountable to results.

We operate with full transparency to clients, partners, and communities, never compromising stakeholders' needs for institutional convenience.

Development challenges are not solved alone. We build triangulated coalitions, co-design strategies with client leadership, and broker partnerships between governments, donors, civil society, and the private sector.

We adapt proven mechanisms to new contexts, building solutions that are practical, scalable, and built for African realities.

Why We Exist

African organisations with transformational mandates consistently face the same structural barrier: they hold fundable propositions but lack the internal capacity to design investment-grade strategies, navigate institutional capital ecosystems, or translate their development impact into language that moves donors, DFIs, and private investors.

Investment4Development closes that gap.

We combine 20+ years of senior-level operational experience across 25+ African markets with deep institutional relationships spanning. Where most agencies offer generic frameworks, i4D delivers context-specific solutions built on direct market knowledge, measurable outcomes, and a track record of delivering services in Africa. Our clients are development organisations, governments, foundations, for-profit social enterprises, and civil society organisations who cannot afford to fail. We don’t hand them a report, we build their capacity, strengthen their governance, shape their advocacy, and put capital in the room. That is our value proposition.

Our clients include:

We build capacity, strengthen governance, shape advocacy, and mobilise capital.

Our Founder

For over two decades, Cynthia Appenteng sat across the table from some of Africa's most determined leaders — former presidents, parliamentarians, CEOs, and changemakers — and watched the same story unfold. Visionary organisations, transformational mandates, and yet not enough capacity, or capital to deliver them.

Cynthia built her career navigating those exact fault lines. From the UK Home Office and Ministry of Defence to UNOPS, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center, she spent 20+ years helping institutions across EMEA solve their most stubborn governance, operational, and capital raising challenges —

But it was the leaders she watched struggle alone — quietly, persistently, without the right infrastructure around them — that moved her most.

investment4Development was her answer.

Founded on the conviction that African organisations should never have to choose between impact and sustainability, i4D exists to build organisational capacity, strengthen governance, shape advocacy, and put capital in the room — giving leaders the foundation they need to deliver well-funded, accountable, and lasting solutions for their communities.
